Do you take the shot?

Range: 105 yards

Firearm: Ruger 77/357

Ammo: Barnes VOR-TX 140 gr. XPB-HP

Sight: XS Ruger 77 Backup with striped front post

I would. Just finished a review of this rifle which should appear soon in a new magazine from Harris Publications. I was really taken by this lightweight carbine which is a joy to carry and shoot. The Gunwriter Assistant liked it too. It could make a great rifle for young hunters and anyone still hunting thickets. At 100 yards the Barnes 140 gr. XPB-HP bullet will penetrate 25 inches of 10% gelatin and expand to almost a half inch.

    My answer is as follows.
Can I put the bullet in my minute of dead deer?
If yes then shoot, if not then no shoot.

At first I was wondering why they didn’t make it in .44.

    Then I realized I didn’t care … ’cause I’d rather use my Marlin ’94.

Ruger would do very well to make 1892’s.

What height front sight did you end up going with? I just got a 77/357 & this gun just cries out for a good set of peep sights and the XS solution looks like the best bet.

    Thanks!
