New to Come Carry Guns from Wilson Combat

Spent the day yesterday shooting several pre-production prototype 1911s from Wilson Combat. These were superb carry guns that are slated for introduction sometime after the first of the year. Trust me; both are first rate carry guns that you’ll want to hear more about. One will delight those that want a super compact handgun but love high velocity.

Bat – The Gunwriter Assistant – also got a couple hours of instruction from Bill Wilson who, in case you don’t know, is one of the most accomplished pistol shooters of modern times.

Sometimes I wonder if my boy is getting spoiled. When I was 11 I would have given body parts to experience some of the things he gets to experience. The good part is I get to share it all with him.

Born and raised in the West Virginia hills, Richard literally grew up in the woods. He has chased coon hounds until daylight, waited out whitetails perched high in an oak, canoed the New River and hunted from the Montana Mountains to the Green Hills of Africa. He has trained military personnel, law enforcement officers and civilians in the application of firearms for defensive, competitive and recreational use. Richard won the West Virginia Governor’s Twenty Award for law enforcement, the West Virginia National Guard State Pistol Competition and earned his Distinguished Medal with pistol. Badge turned in, Richard is now a contributing editor for several magazines. He was the compiling author of the book, Rifle Bullets for the Hunter and conceptualized and contributed to Selecting and Ordering a Custom Hunting Rifle. Richard also contributed a chapter to the John Velke book, The True Story of the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency. Richard has patents on a riflescope reticle and a revolutionary bullet testing media. A hillbilly at heart, Richard lives on Shadowland - his shooting range in West Virginia - with the most understanding wife in the world, their three kids and a very protective ridgeback hound.

I would rather buy an adequate carry gun and put the difference between that and one of Bill Wilson’s guns into additional training. Unless I was in DEVGRU that is using Other Peoples’ Money. 😉

Sometimes it’s nice to own and trust the best available. Kind of like a NULA. and. A pistol to trust your life on is more important than a hunting rifle. When and if I find myself in a mid life crisis. I’m gonna get a Wilson instead of a convertible or misstress. In the long run it is a better decision and will coat less.

I hang out on the Gunsite List and the question of how much to pay for hardware (and which hardware) get continuing attention from the crew. I would say a reliable shooter is enough of a handgun, but you do need two of them (one to practice and one to carry). Of course folks can carry the high end guns. Since I am long past mid-life I am more philosophical about these things. 😉
