Belated Christmas – My NULA in .30 Rem AR is on the way!

Just got off the phone with Melvin Forbes at New Ultra Light Arms. He said he just finished my rifle in .30 Rem AR. With a 20 inch barrel it weighs 4.4 pounds (4 pounds and 6.4 ounces). With a lightweight Leupold or my 8 ounce 6X Weaver total weight should be around 5 pounds. I expect I’ll see about 135 fps increase over the AR which should run 150 gr. bullets to about 2700 fps and 110 gr. bullets to 3100+. Melvin said the rifle will hold three in the magazine and one in the chamber. A feature article on this rifle is scheduled for Rifle Magazine but I’ll keep you posted here when the rifle arrives.

I'm wondering which of these 30 Rem AR handloads will shoot best in the NULA.

30 Remington AR

How does 30 Rem AR compare to the 6.8 mm Remington SPC? Ruger makes an upper in 6.8 SPC for AR style rifles that is piston operated.

The .30 Rem AR will push a 110 gr. bullet to 3000 fps from a 20 inch barrel in an AR. It will also move a 150 grain bullet along at 2500 from a 20 inch AR. I used the cartridge to take a pronghorn, black bear, mule deer and whitetail this year with 110, 125 and 150 gr. bullets.

I prefer the .30 Rem AR to the 6.8 because of the heavier bullets and wider bullet selection.
