Holsters & Skinny Hips

During the ladies event at Gunsite I had an opportunity to spend some time with Mike Barham who works for GALCO. One thing I learned is that some holsters just don’t work for some people.

Mike brought me a GALCO pancake style holster to try for my 1911 Gaboon. Funny thing, no matter how had I tried I could not draw the pistol from the holster. It fit perfect and when Mike put it on his belt he had no problem drawing the gun. It simply would not come out of the holster for me.

Why, mostly because of the way I’m made. I know what your thinking and no I’m not weird; I have skinny hips, OK? And, no, I’m not saying Mike has fat hips…Gun guys don’t talk like that!

The good news is if you buy a GALCO holster that does not work or does not work FOR YOU, GALCO has a very talented help desk staffed with real shooters who can REALLY help. AND, if the holster does not fit or work for you, they’ll hook you up with one that will.

Galco makes a wide assortment of quality leather holsters to fit most popular handguns.

For what its worth, the next day Mike had me two new GALCO holsters to try. One was the SSS SIDE SNAP SCABBARD which is like a paddle holster but actually attaches to your belt with snaps. The other was the SUMMER COMFORT INSIDE PANT HOLSTER.

Both of these worked perfectly for me and the SUMMER COMFORT has become my carry holster for the GABOON. I do like the on/off convenience of the SNAP SCABBARD though.

Mr. Bill King, Galco’s Customer Service Supervisor, would also like me to mention his heroic delivery of the replacement holsters. He drove the hundred miles from Phoenix with the holsters on a Friday night and brought them to me at Matt’s Saloon!
