I got a sneak peak at the new Versa Max the other day. No, did not get to shoot it but I did get a look at the new operating system.
Essentially, its very similar to a piston driven AR…kinda…On the underside of the barrel you’ll find two parrallel tubes. These tubes are fed gas from the barrel by various ports. The gas drives the two pistons that work the action. If you are shooting a 2 3/4 inch shell there are more ports that feed the gas. If you’re shooting a 3 1/2 inch shell there are less ports.
It’s really a very clever design. A buddy is heading north to shoot wild geese in the face with a Versa Max. I’ll let you know what he thinks of it. In the mean time:
I wonder how much they paid Farve, how long they had to wait and how hard it was for them to get him to commit. Here’s a great idea for a Versa Max commercial; have Farve trying to decide what shell length he wants to shoot in the Versa Max…It could go on all season.
