June 24, 2010 – Day 11

Today I tested eight defensive handgun loads in 10% ordnance gelatin. My little gelatin blocks molded in cardboard ½ gallon milk containers worked flawlessly again. I urge you to give these a try if you want to conduct some gelatin testing on your own. (These small blocks wont work for rifle cartridges.)

The following loads were tested:

.45 ACP Glaser Silver Safety Slug
.32 H&R Magnum Federal 85 gr. JHP
.32 NAA Corbon 60 gr. JHP
9mm Federal 105 gr. EFMJ
9mm Speer 124 gr. Gold Dot HP
9mm Speer 124 gr. +P Gold Dot HP
9mm Federal 115 gr. JHP
.45 ACP 185 gr. Speer Gold Dot HP

Anyone guess which load penetrated the deepest? Check out Terminal Tuesday in July and August for the results of this test session.

If you have been looking for a way to clean your rifle when in the field, while hunting or during a match you might consider the Fast Snap Rifle Cleaning System from Remington. It has everything you need to clean a rifle – even a bore light. I keep one in the case with my SISK CSR and another goes with me on every hunt.

Remington also makes a Fast Snap Kit for pistols and shotguns.
